When someone you love has died, nobody should have to spend an evening comparing hotels. Family is flying in from different places. An aunt can't manage stairs, the little ones need a crib, and everyone, really, just needs to be together. If you are the one making the arrangements, we would like to make this part simple.
The Grayson is a family-owned bed and breakfast in the Cascade foothills on Highway 2, serving Snohomish, Everett, Woodinville, Redmond and the Sky Valley. Hosts Mark and Mariam Zinn run it themselves. We are lodging, not an event venue, and we do not host funerals or services. What we offer is a place for your family to stay together, before the service and after it.
A place to be together
When family flies in on short notice, they need somewhere to be together, not just rooms and a lobby. We hold every available suite for your group, handle the meals, and keep the coffee on. Nobody in your family has to host anything. People arrive, and the house takes care of the rest.
- Room to gather. Two living rooms, one upstairs and one down, a dining room with a grand table, the deck, the gardens and the Firepit Oasis.
- Room to step away. Each suite has its own door, the Created Comfort Sleep system and soft, medium and firm pillows. The West Side quiet wing sits away from the kitchen and laundry.
- Coffee and tea at any hour. Keurig stations on both floors, with herbal teas and decaf, always replenished.
For elders and anyone who can't manage stairs
Before The Grayson, Mariam had a long career in healthcare and geriatrics, caring for vulnerable people: running eldercare facilities, specializing in dementia care and patients with complex medical conditions, and serving on the board of directors for Eastside senior and hospice end-of-life care. She knows what families carry in these days, and the accessibility here was built in from the start, not added later.
- Three ground-floor suites. The Cascade, Pike and Olympic have zero stairs, a ramp to the door and wider doorways.
- ADA restrooms. The house has three. Two serve those three suites, and a third, multipurpose one is off the kitchen. They have taller toilets, lower counters, grab bars, step-in showers and under-lighting, and a shower chair is available on request. There is no roll-in shower.
- Step-free outdoors. The deck has no steps, and wide, even garden paths work for a wheelchair, a walker or a stroller.
- Easy arrival. Loop the circular drive and park beside the wheelchair ramp.
- A caregiver close by. We can set a cot in the room for a caregiver, or give each of you a suite.
For the little ones
- Cribs and the basics. Mini cribs and pack-and-plays are free, along with highchairs, children's dishes, toys, books, a baby monitor and board games.
- A family suite. The Cedar has a queen and two built-in twins and sleeps four.
- Somewhere to play. An outdoor play area and open lawn, so the children have somewhere to be while the grown-ups talk.
Every family sleeps differently. Some squeeze into one suite, some want a room each, and teens sometimes bunk together. Inquire if we can accommodate your group's size.
Meals, so no one has to cook
- Breakfast every morning, made to order and served 9 to 11 AM, with special diets taken before you arrive. For an early flight or an early service, the Early Riser breakfast runs 5:00 to 8:30 AM for $15*.
- A chef-cooked lunch or dinner for the family is $35* per person, with beverages and to-go snack boxes. Desserts are $15* per person.
- The Hearth & Honey Long Table Brunch. Complimentary with a block of four or more suites. Without a qualifying block, it is $450* flat for up to 10 people, plus up to 15 more guests at $45* a plate. Leftovers are boxed up to take home.
- Your own caterer or delivery. Caterer drop-offs and delivery orders are received, plated and served white-glove.
- On a buyout, the Chef's Kitchen is yours, and a hosted Last Together Supper gives the family one more evening around the table.
We would be honored to host your gathering after the service, family style or buffet, at $50* per person, and relatives and friends who aren't staying overnight are welcome to join. *Prices subject to change.

Short notice is the usual notice
Families rarely get much warning, so we answer inquiries the same day. If the online calendar shows nothing open for your dates, please don't read that as a no. The booking system can only offer a stay it can hold in one room for every night, and we can often arrange it across suites, so send your dates anyway.
- One night or several. One-night group stays are welcome, without block perks. Blocks start at three days and two nights.
- Arrival. Check-in is 4 to 9 PM, and you name an arrival hour. Every guest is greeted in person and handed the room key. Earlier or later arrivals can be arranged for a fee, and early check-in from 2 PM is $75*.
- Departure. Check-out is 11 AM. A 1 PM late checkout is complimentary on every buyout and every Monday through Thursday group stay.
- Flying in. Paine Field in Everett is the closest airport, and Sea-Tac also serves the area.
- The family dog. Pets are welcome. The pet fee is $75* per suite for any stay under 30 nights ($150* a month per suite on stays of 30 nights or more), and the optional Pet Concierge, $21* a day, looks after your pet while you are at the service.
- Extra guests. Guests beyond two in a suite are $15.75* a night.
On a buyout for a bereavement, we take $50* a night off. *Prices subject to change.

The quieter practical things
- A notary in the house. Mariam is a current Washington State notary, so the estate and family papers that come with a loss can be notarized right here. Just ask ahead.
- Payment and changes. Larger reservations are paid at booking. On a smaller stay, you can cancel up to 72 hours before arrival for a raincheck or a Grayson gift certificate.
- For funeral homes. Funeral homes serving Snohomish and the Sky Valley can refer out-of-town families to us, and we place them together on short notice. There is no fee and no contract.
- Errands and an afternoon out. Monroe is two miles away for errands and groceries, and historic Snohomish is 10 miles, if the family wants a few hours away.
- A calm house. Quiet hours run 10 PM to 6 AM. Indoors is smoke-free, with a designated smoking area by the Firepit Oasis. The Grayson does not serve alcohol, though guests may bring their own.
